“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
— Mark Twain
Elaine Meryl Brown found out why she was born at the age of nine - she was born to write. She is a Daytime EMMY AWARD Winning Writer – ABC-TV “FYI” – with varied experience in the media, entertainment, and publishing industries. Her passion is visual storytelling. Writing characters and dialogue is her superpower and producing is her gift. While growing up, her motivation was putting characters on the screen who looked like her. Now with years of corporate and writing experience under her belt, her dream of becoming a full-time writer is being manifest and her goal is coming full circle.
Throughout her career, Elaine’s writing has focused on entertainment and positive messages. She worked in creative services at HBO and Showtime Networks. She is a published Penguin Random House best-selling author of The Little Black Book of Success: Laws of Leadership for Black Women and its accompanying workbook, and the critically acclaimed novel, Lemon City, and Playing by the Rules. Other writing includes the network show Happy New Year, America for CBS-TV, several health and wellness articles for Essence, sample scripts for The Cosby Show, Frank’s Place, Gula Gula Island, and an original anthology series, Five Points. She recently adapted Lemon City into a half-hour TV pilot with episodic descriptions and a show bible, registered by WGA (West), currently being shopped. She won a Literary Award from the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and was nominated for an NAACP Image Literary Award.
While a Vice President at HBO, Elaine was the driving force behind developing the digital networks most acclaimed original content, Mary J. Blige at Constitution Hall, Stretch hosted by Angie Martinez, Zone Booth, Backpack, Chat Zone, the multi-award-winning Habla and El Perro Y El Gato series on HBO Latino, and Yuk, Frog Blues, Jammin’ Animals, and Buzz in the Bleachers, on HBO Family.
